Applications of Mathematics in Daily Life

You may think, what relates the Maths you learn in school to the real world. Will you ever have to work on equations or find any trigonometric ratio outside the classroom? There are many applications of Maths we can observe around us in day to day life.

From buying fruits to playing a computer game, almost in every phase of our life, the concepts and theories of Maths are used. Some fundamentals are easy to understand, like numbers, arithmetic operations, BODMAS rule, etc., taught to us in our primary classes. But some concepts such as statistics, Pareto chart, trigonometry, calculus, etc., taught to us in higher secondary classes are complex. But each concept has its significance. Let us see some of them.

Counting Numbers

Numbers play a vital role in our life. We use to count objects with the help of them. Also, we do regular calculations like addition and multiplication using these numbers in our routine life. Like adding up the bills, calculating monthly budget, etc.

Algebraic Expressions

Algebra is highly recommendable when we have to find any unknown factor. For instance, if we have to find the price of 100KG apples based on the price of 1KG apple, then we can use variables to denote as the final price and evaluate it. Suppose the price of 1KG apple is Rs.50/-. Let the price of 100 KG apple is x. Then x = 100 x Rs. 50 = Rs. 5000/-.

Geometrical Shapes

The shapes and figures we learn in Maths make us understand the shapes available in the outer world. The biggest example is our spherical earth. Also, the concept of lines and angles explains the linearity and inclinations of an object with respect to any still surface.

Profit and Loss

These terms are commonly used in business. While selling or buying a product, there will be some profit or loss per cent linked to it. This helps people in business to calculate how their business is going on in the market.

Statistics

This concept is also a crucial part of companies and industries. Based on statistical analytics, the future of the business can be predicted and planning could be done to gain more revenue. Even the weather forecasting team, works based on stats of past weather reports and estimates upcoming weather.

Apart from these applications, there are numerous uses of mathematical theories in our everyday life.
